How to show up on Google when customers search
When someone searches for what you offer, three things decide who wins the customer: who shows up, who looks most trustworthy, and who makes it easiest to get in touch. Here is what actually drives visibility — and the order worth doing things in.
Start with your Google Business Profile
For local services, the business profile is often the first thing a customer sees — sometimes the only thing. It controls how you appear in Google Maps and the local results at the top of the page.
Fill in everything: services, hours, photos and a description that says what you do and for whom. A half-finished profile signals the business might not exist anymore.
Reviews decide who gets the call
At equal visibility, the business with the most and most recent reviews wins. Ask happy customers for a review right after the job is done — that is when they are most likely to actually do it.
Reply to every review, including the negative ones. A calm, professional reply to a complaint builds more trust than silence.
Your website must answer the customer's question
Google ranks pages that clearly answer what the searcher wants. One page per service, with a clear headline, pricing guidance or process, and an easy way to get in touch, beats a generic homepage.
Speed and mobile-friendliness matter — most local searches happen on a phone, often in urgent situations.
Ads when you can't wait
Organic visibility takes months to build. Google Ads gives you visibility the same day, at the top of the results, and you only pay when someone clicks.
The key is measuring what clicks turn into — calls, inquiries, bookings — so the budget goes to searches that actually bring in business.
